That's Nice to Know, But

Turnbull_1

... that's not what I was Googling. I was trying to locate a beach for a weekend away when I came across this MP's affinity for canines. With his approval of the new Gunn's timber mill in Tasmania, dogs (and a handful of Tasmanians) may in fact be his only real friends for a while. I wonder if Peter Garrett is as well-regarded in canine quarters?

Recent Surfing Lowlights 01

Wacom_logo

Wacom: Fine products, terrible new logo. Crikey. As a stand-alone wordmark, is quite OK. Together, the wordmark and 'colour thing' quite inept. Read more at Brand New.

Designed by Wolff Olins, designers of the 2012 Olympics logo. Who, incidentally, are (now) nothing to do with Wally (see post below). He's now running Saffron Brand Consultants. I guess he didn't like 'Barbie Pink'.

A Note from 1+1=3

Hairymail

Regular visitors to this site may have noted that there haven't been any longer posts of late, where things may be discussed and evaluated by myself in more of an essay format. I've been doing frequent 'Recent Surfing Highlights' and a few quick grabs here and there because our studio has been 'under the pump' with work of late. In short, no time for longer, more considered pieces. Not too sure when more time will make itself available – just in case you were wondering – 'cause I was. (And I have a few longer pieces and reviews I'm keen to write).

On a professional note, our studio has recently ditched the Mac mail application. We've opted for the new web-based app Hairy Mail and use it extensively for all our professional correspondence. Via Tobstar.

And: Gary Hustwit's film Helvetica (which Ace Jet 170 hilariously dubbed 'the Fontom Menace') is screening at Character 4 on July 22. Tickets going fast.

Gyegi

Gyegi

My darling wife, fashion nut (and style-guru to many) and fellow communication designer, Honie, has launched her women's fashion label Gyegi. The clothing is effortlessly stylish, trans-cultural in an Eastern-Western kind of way and looks and feels superb. I'm no expert on the matter – but I certainly like what I see. Available at Design A Space, Chapel Street, Windsor, in Melbourne.

In case you're wondering, Gyegi is pronounced 'Ghee-yeg-ee' and was one of the middle names of one of the last emperors of Korea – a little unusual perhaps, but quite appropriate for fabrics sourced from that part of the world.

Eurovision Update

Eurovision07_ukraine

The official music video of Verka Serduchka, Ukraine's entry in Eurovision 2007 has been launched. The finals are on May 12. Um, er....

They may well be...

I am yet to hear to the contrary, so they may well be as their sign claims.

1+1 is 3

Were_three_11+1=3 is three years old today. After 330 posts (some long, some short), with more being blogged of late (I'm getting faster), there's more in store for this blog over the course of this year. I'm looking forward to tweaking this blog – a bit of a redesign and some other developments are planned for 1+1=3 too.

But for now, a celebratory bottle of spumante has been cracked and I'm attempting to enjoy it. (I knew I should have spent a dollar more and got the $3.95 bottle).
