Gyegi

Gyegi

My darling wife, fashion nut (and style-guru to many) and fellow communication designer, Honie, has launched her women's fashion label Gyegi. The clothing is effortlessly stylish, trans-cultural in an Eastern-Western kind of way and looks and feels superb. I'm no expert on the matter – but I certainly like what I see. Available at Design A Space, Chapel Street, Windsor, in Melbourne.

In case you're wondering, Gyegi is pronounced 'Ghee-yeg-ee' and was one of the middle names of one of the last emperors of Korea – a little unusual perhaps, but quite appropriate for fabrics sourced from that part of the world.

I am yet to hear to the contrary, so they may well be as their sign claims.

1+1 is 3

Were_three_11+1=3 is three years old today. After 330 posts (some long, some short), with more being blogged of late (I'm getting faster), there's more in store for this blog over the course of this year. I'm looking forward to tweaking this blog – a bit of a redesign and some other developments are planned for 1+1=3 too.

But for now, a celebratory bottle of spumante has been cracked and I'm attempting to enjoy it. (I knew I should have spent a dollar more and got the $3.95 bottle).

From Pop to Herring?

Success within the world of pop music can be fleeting. But diversification into the preserved fish industry was unexpected. Snapped at Richmond IKEA.

Australia: Grilled

AusburgerThe Safeway/Woolworths chain of supermarkets have released a curious barbeque-related product just in time for our next public holiday – Australia Day, celebrated on January 26.

I'm not familiar with the practice of designing hamburger patties in the shape of (stylised) countries, so this recent BBQ goodie is a first for me. Made of 100% beef, the Aussie Burger comes in packs of 4 and retails for $4.48.

Of particular note is the deft handling of Bass Strait, running between the mainland and Tasmania. A subtle horizontal score neatly delineates the two landmasses.

(I never thought I'd ever be discussing a meat-based design on this blog – but there you go). I guess it was inevitable – we are a culture somewhat obsessed with the barbeque.

Ciao for Now

Xmas06

I'd like to thank 1+1=3's readers, occasional contributors and cohort of 'emailers of links, ideas and such' for helping me make this blog happen. I won't be posting anything for a week or two, but I have signed up for this service – so expect a call sometime.

If you're currently standing somewhere in Australia (or soon intend to be) I hope our summer isn't too scorchingly hot and the bushfires (+ more) subside (but have a feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better). Have just heard that it may be snowing in the Alps on Christmas Day, not far from the fires!

Oh, and one two last links. Pitchfork Media's Top 25 Music Videos of 2006 and the font above (for you type-spotters out there) is Hubert Jocham's XmasRudolph – and it's free (but does depict a north hemispherian take on Christmas). Snow? at Christmas? well maybe...

See you in 2007.
